family mountain trip
Excellent traditional guest house with superb hospitality and exceptional homemade breakfast. The owner Mr. Pantelis is doing great job. We strongly recommended to anybody who is visiting the area. We will definitely visit again.-
Feeling like home, treated like a king!
Arriving at this house is like landing to paradise after a long journey! the place is 100 years old, it is recently renovated with luxurious elements (beds, bathrooms , kitchen) and its full of traditional greek products of the finest quality ( fresh eggs, honey, home made bread and cake, ham .. mountain tea, oil for the body) Pantelis is a fantastic man that not only will make you feel like home, but will make you the breakfast of your dreams !!!-
Wonderful guest house in a beautiful location
This is a wonderful guest house. Unfortunately for me I only stayed one night as I was heading home. Pandelis is a wonderful host who is passionate about his guest house and the region it is situated in. He doesn't live on the premises. But he arrived early the morning of my departure with the most amazing breakfast. He cooked me a wonderful omelet. I had to apologise because I couldn't do his breakfast justice as I don't eat big breakfasts. He packed some food for me to take on my journey. Thank you Pandelis for your hospitality I hope one day I can return and spend more time there.-
Peaceful village house!
Really peaceful spot in tiny Stavroupoli village. Pandelis, owner of the guest house, is a real expert of the region, he helped us to set our agenda to enjoy all the natural beauties of Xhanti. Rooms are totally clean and comfortable. Breakfast is excellent, especially if the weather let you to eat in the garden.-
Traditional & cozy, awesome breakfast, helpful owner!
Guesthouse is an old traditional house very well renovated. It is very beautifully decorated and also very comfortable. It is situated in a quite position, just 5 min walking distance from the old village of Stavroupoli. There is a free wi-fi with good signal only in the double rooms. There is no private parking but you can leave your car on the road just outside the hotel with no problem. Breakfast is awesome including traditional bio ingredients. The owner, named Pantelis, is extremely helpful. He makes you feel like your home. Also, Pantelis knows very well the region and he will propose to you a lot of activities and tours available in the region.-
A wonderful place to stay!
This is a sweet, romantic place and everything is perfect! The guesthouse is great, cosy and beautiful. It has actually belonged to the family for years but it was fully renovated with taste and respect to the history of the place. The atmosphere takes you back in time. The rooms are very clean, relaxing , great bedding, mattresses and quilts, too. Nice bathrooms, with all the amenities and steaming hot water. The main area , kitchen and fireplace make you feel AT HOME! The owner, Padelis really went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He helped us organise trips since he is a forester and an expert in the area. And I saved the best for last and that is breakfast! It was unbelievable. First of all, Padelis came to prepare breakfast at whatever time was requested. Everything was freshly baked by Padelis' mother who cooks traditional recipes with local produce. Homemade marmelade, pies, beverages from mountain herbs, creamy homemade butter , I can go on and on. The area is beautiful, forests and hills , rivers and streams, great for hiking. All in all , we are so going back!-
The guesthouse is a traditional house that belonged to the grandparents of the present owner. He knows everything about the area and is very happy to give you lots of information. Breakfast is traditional Greek. The house has a large garden with a lovely view. We went horseback riding with Ilias, along the river Nestos. Ilias was very kind (he speaks only Greek!) and the river is wonderful, but his horses aren't very well mannered. If you really know about horseback riding, you won't appreciate that. You can do lots of other activities around here.-
Very charming, very clean, friendly landlord and a very good breakfast with local produce such as homemade marmelades. Stavroupolis is also the starting point for kayak-trips along the Nestos river, a great way to enjoy the nature of the region.-
Sweet guesthouse in laid back village in the mids of spectacular nature
Guesthouse To Archontiko is a perfect place to relax, join in the rythm of a small rural village and explore nature. The owner serves a great breakfast with local treats, various sorts of honey and jam, pastery backed by his mother, mountain tea... he can advise you to trips in the neigbourhood, likec Canoeing The Nestos River, which is spectacular. The village central square features a big tree that provides shade to the various terrases.-
The Archontiko is a beautifully restored home in the village of Stavroupoli. There are only three bedrooms, which share a lounge and dining/kitchen area. The property has a large garden and there are facilities to eat on the lawned areas with a stunning view over to the massive limestone river cliffs of the Nestos River. The owners are quite wonderful and exceedingly helpful in describing the best ways to explore the area. Breakfasts were huge and could easily keep you going for the whole day; they were also of a very high quality. Every aspect of the accommodation is first class; nothing could be faulted. The location is great; not only for exploring the local area but it is also very convenient for a short (5 minute) stroll into the centre of the village to enjoy the tavernas and restaurant. I would recommend this property to anyone, except, perhaps, those with significant difficulty in walking, as the property is approached by a relatively steep path down from the road. We had a lovely stay there and would hope to return when we visit northern Greece again; this is a fantastically relaxing area with great possibilities for easy kayaking, hill walking, cave visits or touring by car. The people are very welcoming and helpful; particularly when you get lost! I would seriously recommend a trip through the Nestos gorge in a kayak or canoe and a visit to the mountains in Stena Nestou, overlooking the gorge, provides views that must compare with anything on Earth. We didn't have the opportunity to explore the virgin forest to the North of Stavroupoli, but apparently these are also an unforgettable experience.-
Great place, ideal for exploring the mountains of Rodopi
Great hospitality. You really can feel like home. Small guesthouse with only three well decorated rooms, remote in a quite garden, with pleasant view and delicious breakfast with only topical products. The owner is very friendly, willing to help you discover all the hidden places of Rodopi, especially the mountains.-
Family home beautifully renovated with all mod cons but traditional style We were welcomed by the owner, Pandelis, who is very knowledgeable about the whole area. He is a great enthusiast for all things natural and has a vast range of herbal teas on offer, many collected from the mountains and dried. Breakfast was a delight with bread straight from the bakery, pies made by Pandelis' mother, a choice of commercial or village hand-churned butter and home-made preserves, often from forest fruits. In our all too short time there, we tried 8 different preserves at breakfast. We had a super, comfortable room with shared living room & kitchen. Good to be able to make a drink when you want. Lovely gardens on several levels around the house - nice to have breakfast under a tree or just sit and enjoy the birds and the view. However, there is masses to do in the immediate area, along the River Nestos and in the Rodopi mountains - sightseeing & hiking in the beautiful countryside, hot springs, canoeing, horse riding & train rides - and Pandelis is eager to arrange anything you would like to do. In addition, the Stavroupolis village square is only a 3 minute walk away and a great place to while away an hour or two with an ouzo and meze.Highly recommend this super place to stay. We shall certainly try to return - and spend rather more time.-
Great place with very hospitable people
a very nice, small, authentic guesthouse in a traditional village in a beautiful, undiscovered part of greece. the owner is very helpful and hospitable and the breakfast in itself is worth the trip. I enjoyed it so much I came back for the second time this year.-
This is one you need to see to believe. We booked because of all the recommendations on tripadvisor and booking.com.It's just so idylic, starting with the trip through the mountains. We stayed for two nights. Stavroupoli is a great place to start and explore the region. Each valley is different. The breakfast was fantastic with local products and fresh herbal tea. Bed and shower were great! The host has a lot of tips and can help with activities. The canoeing sounded great, but we did not do this because of the colder weather. Xanthi is closeby is you look for a city vibe during your stay. One but...: tourist season really is just July and August. Finding a place for dinner was a bit hard. steki was recommended, but this is a large restaurant and during our stay, there was no one. It is not a place to sit with just two guests. Also, one would expect local specialities, but only the usual tourist dishes were available. We ate at the taverna at train station. This was good, but nothing special. The kitchen of the guesthouse has all you need to cook your own meal. This is what we did the next day.All in all: book and go, you will not be disappointed, but amazed! Little piece of heaven on earth...-
"Archontiko" that is a traditional guesthouse which is located it the center of Stavroupoli village in Greece is a lovely place to stay. One can go there even alone as it has a lot of things to do. There are many activities in which one can participate, both during summer or winter. Pantelis the owner of the place is a very kind and helpful person who can give you guidelines in whatever you want to do there. The staff is excellent and the rooms are very clean. It includes breakfast that is delicious with homemade traditional dishes. I don't believe you will regret a visit.-
great greek traditional experience
Archontiko is a traditional guest house in Stavroupoli. It's really beautiful, made of wood and stone in a classic greek village. It's one of the best that I have stayed. The owner is a very nice person who love his job and he is trying to satisfy his clients. The breakfast is home made, and you can order what you want. Stavroupoli is close to Xanthi, one of the most beautiful greek cities, and also can be a starting point for many excursions to the river or close by mountains. If I have to find one bad thing about the room, the bed matters wasn't very comfortable.-
Luxurious accommodation and very kind and generous owner!
Luxurious accommodation in very affordable prices , excellent breakfast with fresh local biological products and the best is the amazing hot green tea we were served in the evening while chating with Pantelis the owner about places to go and excursions in the Nestos river in xanthi. This trip from Konstantinoupolis to xanthi and then to Thessaloniki was great. Good and easy acces from Konstantinoupolis through the highway.-
Make yourself a favor...
With a last minute booking, we didn't know exactly what to see when we arrive at the hotel. It was last night on our way back to Turkey and we were quite late. We phoned the hotel and they said "no problem, we'll wait". And he did. He is Pantelis, the owner, who is a great host. And the hotel was lovely. It's easy to go from Xanthi or Drama by car. But if you choose one of mountain roads as we did, it takes more time because of curves and narrow road. But offers a beautiful view. Train is another option. The hotel itself, around, the village and the whole area is wonderful. There are nice places to eat in the tiny square of the village. There are lots of activities around Nestos river like canoe, kayak, trekking, hore-riding, etc. Pantelis can organize for you. We took another mountain road, which goes to Toxotes, on return that has a magnificent panorama terrace.Hotel's name, Archontiko means Mansion in Greek, AFAIK. The house is well kept from old times and restorated and decorated in a very convenient way. It has only three rooms, one of them is suite. It is very clean, has enough towels, soaps etc. in the rooms. Area is very silent. You have a breakfast at the garden with all local food. It can't be bought in five star hotels, for sure. What we are sorry about is that we had only one night to stay. But that makes us owe another visit and see all we missed this time.-
Lovely place to stay. Short walk to the village which is attractive in itself. Take the Nestos kayak trip for a relaxing and rewarding experience and if you can make the walk to the waterfall, that is most enjoyable. Good restaurant in the village but worth the short walk down to the railway station for the excellent grub opposite. Panteles who owns To Archontiko is a fund of local information, he is also keen on conservation and preserving local traditions, his job as a forest engineer and the local jams and honey for breakfast bear evidence. We would have loved to have met his wife and the triplets but they were away for a break. I don't believe you will regret a visit.-
When something sounds too good to be true..........
....9 times out of 10 it isnt...the reviews for this amazingly well refurbished stone cottage proved to be all well founded. Very good restoration and furnished in the period with many knick knacks, open fire shuttered windows, small kitchenette, lovely shower room with amazing and powerful shower, lots of free goodies. Lovely tiered garden with seating in different aspects and the venue for the most plentiful breakfast of home made....everything. Pantelis, full of information and obviously loves the area and Ileana, with the never ending breakfast. Its the attention to detail and little extras that always make a place a real treat Stavroupolis itself also charming and unpretentious charging just the right price for bottled lager under the plane tree....... Oh and 4 kitteny kats...who won't always be performing-
It was an experience of being taken care for your whole time there, by the host Pantelis who answered all of my questions and helped me plan detailed excursions in advance to help ensure that I have a wonderful time in Stavroupoli, Xanthi and neighboring areas of the Village.I saw the reviews from this website and knew that this is place is probably one of the best place in Xanthi and Nothern Greece, with outdoor activities and was exactly what we found , an affordable luxury guest home rental.House/Rooms: Very nicely decorated and clean, well maintained... it shows that the effort from the owners in managing this property.Host: Very friendly and caring... We feel the warmth and appreciate the little gestures. Owners definitely have high arty taste in choosing furniture and deco. I particularly like the rooms and living room area... very unique.“ To Archontiko “ guest House B&B is definitely on my list to return. We regret not staying more than 3 nights. The owner go out of his way to make you feel as if you were part of their family. They are gentle and amiable family. The quiet stillness of the mountains contrasted with the nestos river paints a serene piece of utopia nestled in the discreet village of Stavroupoli in Xanthi Greece.-

It is a extraordenary place, with a superior guide,(Owener Pantelis). Villa place in a very nice nature, every thing in the hotel iz excellent, amzing breakfast . thank you for all. everybody should visit this boutique hotel.-
Archontiko is a beautifully renovated stone built villa located in a picturesque mountainous town. It is cosy ,warm, comfy, spacious and Pandelis, the owner is the perfect host. The breakfast tastes completely home made, jams, honey, home churned butter , free range eggs, fresh greek pastries. His knowledge and advice of the area has helped us plan our visit to the area. To sum it all up...can' t wait to go back.-
